Here at FinestPreps we’ve already hit you with some of the top sophomore football players in America.
We’ve unveiled the likes of Hebron RB Dezmond Wortham, Erie Cathedral Prep’s QB Damion Terry, and Central Valley’s ATH Robert Foster.
Who’s the next gridiron great from the class of 2013 to land on FinestPreps.com?
That would be none other than Erie Cathedral Prep athlete (Erie, Pa.) Delton Williams.
Blessed with great size at 6’3, 205 lbs.–Williams has the size that college coaches across covet.
He’s a dynamic playmaker who can make things happen once the ball is in his hands.
Check out the first play on his highlight package below–he’s running back to field a punt and the ball bounce a couple of times on the ground.
It settles to a stop at around the 28 yard line–where Williams squats down to pick the ball up–only to see a sea of oncoming defenders barreling down on him.
He then shakes two defenders, finds some breathing room down the sideline, and makes six more defenders miss a tackle before reaching the end zone.
Then there’s one play when he catches a tipped ball from an opposing receiver at the 35 yard line then races 65 yards down the sideline for the pick six.
His field vision, speed, and acceleration are absolutely outstanding.
He also seems to have excellent vision of the cutback lanes as well.
As a defender, he takes extremely good angles to the ball carrier and has great ball skills once the ball is in the air.
From the safety position–he racked up 91 tackles (49 solo, 42 assists), five passes defended, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.
After it was all said and done he scored four touchdowns in his sophomore season in a variety of ways.
A dynamic special teams return man–he racked up 316 yards on 23 returns last season (13.74 yards per attempt).
As a kick returner–the super sophomore shredded teams for 177 yards on eight returns (22.13 yards per attempt).
As a receiver–Williams flashed great potential as well–hauling in 10 catches for 208 yards (20.8 yards per catch).
He’s a big-time playmaker and you better believe he’ll be hounded by college coaches around this time next spring.
They might have a hard time trying to figure out where to put Williams on the field (he’s currently listed at MLB on Scout.com) but one thing is for certain–he’s bound to have plenty of options!
