Nike Sparq combines can be a high school football players worst nightmare, or in the case of this particular Westerville South game breaker, a day of glory and overdue recognition.
Although we aren’t huge on combine performances at Preps.com, we do go through all numbers posted to see if the times match up with the tape we’ve evaluated over the past couple months. After browsing through results of the combine hosted at Massillon High School, we came across the name Abu Daramy.
The 5’10 170 pound athlete from the suburbs of Columbus posted the third highest Nike Sparq rating with a 112.41, that included a 4.63 laser forty, ridiculous 4.07 shuttle, and a most impressive 41 inch vertical jump. Immediately after seeing those number we started doing some research to find out more about the kid. Typically a prospect from a big suburb school in Ohio with that type of athletic ability would have coaches banging at his door.
After not finding very much information on Abu, we finally got in touch with him and realized he not only had no Division 1 interest, but wasn’t even receiving attention from any coaches at all. If you know anything about Preps.com, you know we live for the opportunities to introduce the recruiting world to standout prospects not receiving the respect they deserve.
After going through Daramy’s tape it’s not hard to see coaches are dropping the ball by not recruiting the workout warrior. He shows the versatility you look for in a athlete as a return specialist, slot receiver, and defensive back. With the raw athleticism he displayed at the Nike Sparq combine it should be a crime he doesn’t at least hold one offer.
After his stellar performance at the combine, he’ll receive an invite to the NFTC hosted at Ohio State and have the opportunity to compete against the states top players. We’ll continue to keep you posted on the Westerville South standout and hopefully be updating you on his first offer.
