In a region known for churning out college and NFL talent, head coach George Novak and the Woodland Hills Wolverines have established themselves as arguably the most fertile ground in Western PA. At one point, the Wolverines had the most active players in the NFL out of any high school in the country, boasting NFL standouts like Rob Gronkowski, the Wolverina has become an annual stop for college coaches all over the country on Friday nights.

Woody High has a long history of standout backs, but this year, returning starter Miles Sanders looks to write his own page in the Novak Chronicles. As a freshman starter, which is unheard of for Woodland Hills, Sanders lead the young team to the WPIAL championship until he was sidelined after a devastating blow at Heinz.
Sanders is looking forward to carrying the Wolverines, along with senior standout, Harry Randall, back to Heinz to hoist the trophy that used to be a mainstay in Novak’s office. We had the opportunity to see Sanders in person at the Toledo football camp hosted in Youngstown last week and to make a long story short, Sanders walked out with a Toledo offer apparently, and showed us how he became a rare freshman starter for the black and blue.
His striking similarities to Aliquippa’s Dravon Henry excites you and allows you to see how he was able to contribute so early. At the end of the camp, Sanders was called out for a 1 on 1 and chopped up the DB coasting into the end zone, coming out of the backfield. The rising sophomore has an excellent frame that is sure to develop and shows the same position versatility that allowed players like Tyler Boyd and Henry to dominate the WPIAL. It’s still a little early to crown him Woody’s new golden child, but we’ll continue to keep an eye on him and be sure to be the first to coronate him to the throne.  Below is his highlight tape from freshman year.
