Preps.com continues to follow the Big Apple’s top players and after watching Russell Wilson lead the Seattle Seahawks to the Super Bowl it’s only right we introduce you to this gun slinger from Staten Island.
As recent as two to three years ago if you would have watched Joshua Rainey’s highlight tape, you would have thought he made a great high school quarterback, but his future in college would end up being as a slot receiver or defensive back. Now with the way the game has evolved and the success dual threat quarterbacks have had in the NFL, coaches and fans have changed their tune.
With a great arm and accuracy, Tottenville’s Joshua Rainey has all the attributes of the new age signal caller. After leading Tottenville to a city championship, only to fall to Thomas Holley’s Lincoln Railsplitter’s, Rainey looks to bounce back and prove he can guide his team to a coveted New York City championship.
As you can see in the Pirates junior highlight tape, he not only shows the ability to make plays with his feet, but also can sit in the pocket and make all the throws. In a copy cat sport, don’t be surprised to see Rainey gain some attention with coaches trying to emulate the same success players like Johhny Manziel and Russell Wilson have had at the collegiate and professional level with their rare improvisational skills.
Preps.com will continue to keep you updated on Rainey and many more of the top players in the Big Apple.
