Preps.com attended the FBU combine a few months back and had the opportunity to see some of Columbus, Ohio’s top prospects. One prospect in particular caught our eye and made his commitment to University of Kentucky a few weeks ago.
Mark Stoops may have hit the jackpot with Westerville South’s, Darryl Long. Without a doubt the pride of Columbus, Ohio, he has potential to be a standout for the reemerging Wildcats. Long has the size to be a problem as a rush end, but takes pride in his ability to stretch the field and go up and get it.
As you go through Darryl’s tape you see his soft hands and ability to highpoint the ball. What’s even more impressive about Long is his yards after the catch. At 6’5 225, Long not only stretches the field, but also show’s capability to take a drag or out to the house. Various schools were waiting to see Long in camp, but the lumbering tight end made his pledge to Stoops before they could get him on campus.
Michigan State’s Le’veon Bell, who was recently drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2nd round, was another Columbus native that was grossly under recruited. With Darryl’s work ethic and maturity, he looks to be the next prospect from the states capital that the Buckeyes dropped the ball on. We’ll continue to follow Darryl and many other Columbus prospects this fall. Below is Darryl’s junior year highlight tape. Enjoy
