The Toledo Rockets have a long tradition of stepping into WPIAL country and securing some of the areas top talent.  Second year head coach, Matt Campbell was no stranger to this custom, having been part of the staff that had recruited players like Penn Hills graduates Barry Church and Archie Donald, and most recently 1st team All Mac selection Jermaine Robinson.

In 2012 the Rockets had a WPIAL sweep, securing commitments from some of the areas top talent, in Corey Jones, Treyvon Hester, Jaylen Coleman, Juwan Haynes, Chaz Whittaker, and Damian Jones Moore.  Now almost two years removed from their WPIAL recruiting assault, the Rockets not only return one of the most explosive offenses in the country, but also add the icing to the cake, with some of Western Pa’s most explosive players in the class of 2012.

With standout backer, Dan Molls headed to the NFL, room is now left for City league legend, Jaylen Coleman to assume the role as “man in the middle” and pick up right where Molls left off.  With Penn Hills buddies, Treyvon Hester and Chaz Whittaker in the mix, along with Central Catholic defensive back Juwan Haynes, you may as well call Toledo’s defense the Steel Curtain.  After gray shirting, former Penn Hills playmaker, Corey Jones, can’t wait to show the country he’s the same guy that showed out against the countries elite.

Toledo didn’t have the same success this past recruiting season, after losing key targets, Zach Challingsworth and Titus Howard to hometown Pitt, but Jason Candle, Western Pa recruiter and offensive coordinator, still has to be considered one of the top recruiters in the country.  Now with a boat load of talent on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, lets see if Toledo can rep that WPIAL swag and get over the hump, into a BCS bowl game.  Preps.com will continue to follow the Toledo Rockets and keep you  updated on the former WPIAL players.
