Preps.com has been following the career of Tyler Boyd since he was a backup his sophomore year for the Clairton Bears. Now a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh, Boyd finally had the opportunity to introduce himself to the Pitt fan base and the rest of the country.
As a 4 star recruit coming out of High School, Boyd pretty much did everything possible to separate himself from the pack with 4 PIAA championship rings and a MVP performance at the Big 33 Classic. Even with these tremendous performances scouting analyst continued to discredit his production because he was playing in the lowest classification in Pennsylvania High School football.
Now with his first college game under his belt, Boyd has proven that he belongs amongst the elite. Going against a highly regarded Florida State defense, Boyd made it apparent that Paul Chryst needs to find more ways to get the ball in his hands. Although Boyd didn’t score in this game, which we are accustom to, he did prove to the country that he’s one of the most promising young athletes in the country.
Always having a chip on his shoulder, Boyd showed the position versatility Clairton fans grew to love making plays running, catching, and returning the football. With an offense full of weapons, hopefully Paul Chryst can continue to find creative ways to get the ball in Boyd’s hands. Enjoy his first week highlights below.
