Preps.com recently had a chance to talk with Akron Zips running back Jawon Chisholm. Chisholm, going into his junior year, has rushed for almost 2,000 yards and 10 touchdowns in his first two seasons. Despite the Zips record last year, Chisholm was one of the bright spots as he rushed for 953 yards and 5 touchdowns during his sophomore campaign. Here’s what he had to say about his first two years at Akron and thoughts on the upcoming season.
J. CLEEZY: What are some things that you (individually) have worked on to improve yourself?
J. CHISHOLM: Over the summer I’ve worked on getting more explosive to gain that top end speed, as well as a lot of core work for balance between tackles.
J. CLEEZY: What are some things you’ve learned after your first two years of playing for Akron?
J. CHISHOLM: I have learned from the past two years that there’s elite athletes on every team you play and that the speed of the game is underrated. Always wait your turn never rush anything.
J. CLEEZY: What are some of your team and individual goals?
J. CHISHOLM: I’m hoping we are MAC champs. I never set goals because I give my all each in every play. Whatever God has planned, I’m with it.
J. CLEEZY: Toughest opponent during the last two years?
J. CHISHOLM: It would have to be Ohio State during my first year. During my sophomore year, it’s Tennessee because of their size and speed.
J. CLEEZY What are some of the best qualities you have as a running back?
J. CHISHOLM: I believe my best things as a RB is I can make the first person miss, And I can catch out the backfield. I’m a slippery runner who can play pro I or spread.
