Usually when you talk about a team’s offensive weapons, you usually think about every other position except for placekicker. During the 2013 season, kicker Joe Julius prove to be one of Lower Dauphin’s ultimate weapons during their run to the District 3-AAAA Championship and PIAA Class AAAA semi-finals. Julius attempted 15 field goals and connected on 12 of those during the 2013 season. Julius showed his leg strength on kickoffs as well by forcing touchdbacks on 61 out of 78 kickoffs during the 2013 season. The distances on some of his longest field goals were: 54, 48, 46, 45, and 37 yards. He saved his biggest kick for the the District 3-AAAA championshp game as he made a game-winning kick with 46 seconds left to help Lower Dauphin win the game.
You would figure that given all of that, Julius would have at least one offer from a Division 1 school. Julis currently has an offer, but it’s to play soccer at Southern Illinois University – of Edwardsville. Julis has received some interest from a few Division 1 schools in the past including Penn State and Pitt. Given his body of work, Julius deserves an opportunity at the next level. Check out some of his highlights from the 2013 season.
