Before the season started, PREPS.COM put out a list of 40 of the Mid-Penn’s best football players. Preps.com now revisits that last as the 2013 regular season comes to a close this weekend.
QUARTERBACKS
Mike Boguski – Trinity – Class of 2014
Andrew Ford – Cedar Cliff – Class of 2014
Mike Lewis – Palmyra – Class of 2015
Michael Shuster – Camp Hill – Class of 2016
Andrew Ford is the king of the hill. There’s no other way to put it. Ford has proven that he’s the best quarterback in Pennsylvania and maybe in the whole Northeast region of the United States. The Virginia Tech commit threw for six touchdown passes while leading his team to a monster win over Bishop McDevitt last week. Mike Boguski has had a pretty tough season with a young Trinity team. Mike Lewis and Michael Shuster both have great futures ahead of them.
RUNNING BACKS
Andre Robinson – Bishop McDevitt – Class of 2015
Chase Edmonds – Central Dauphin East – Class of 2014
Jamal Pickett – Chambersburg – Class of 2014
John Ford – Red Land – Class of 2014
Rashard Lawson – Bishop McDevitt – Class of 2014
Robert Martin – Harrisburg – Class of 2014
William Burt – Shippensburg – Class of 2014
This has been far and away the strongest position in the Mid-Penn this year. The only ommission may be Darian Davis-Ray from Harrisburg. However, he was listed as an athlete. Andre Robinson has burst on the scene as one of the best running backs on the East Coast in the Class of 2015. Chase Edmonds has proven that he’s one of the best running backs in Pennsylvania……period. Rob Martin unfortunately tore his ACL in week one of the season.
WIDE RECEIVERS
Amechie Walker – Harrisburg – Class of 2015
Kobay White – Bishop McDevitt – Class of 2016
Swahneek Brown – Mechanicsburg – Class of 2014
Tre’ Brown – Milton Hershey – Class of 2014
Tyler Wise – Boiling Springs – Class of 2014
Tyrone Gibson – Bishop McDevitt – Class of 2015
All of these players have shined in one way or another this year. Kobay White is probably the next big-time wide receiver recruit in the area. Amechie Walker had a good coming-out season this year. Swahneek Brown, who came into the season under the radar, has become one of the Mid-Penn’s best. Tre’ Brown has turned up his production in the past few weeks. The most obvious ommission was Cedar Cliff’s Jake Scott based on his production. He deserved to be in the first forty. Raekwan Purdy out of Central Dauphin East emerged as one of the best wide receivers and return men in the conference.
ATHLETES
Brandon Kuntz – Trinity – Class of 2014
Darian Davis-Ray – Harrisburg – Class of 2014
Dequan Ware – Harrisburg – Class of 2014
Jordan Brown – Chambersburg – Class of 2014
Jordan Milberry –Susquehanna Township – Class of 2014
Samuel Marshall – East Pennsboro – Class of 2014
Tyler Updegraff – Cumberland Valley – Class of 2014
Jordan Millberry is one of the best football players, pound for pound, that you’ll ever come across. He’s a difference maker on both sides of the ball. Samuel Marshall suffered a knee injury that wiped out his senior season. Brandon Kuntz faced double and triple teams all year but still managed to put up pretty good numbers. Dequan Ware turned his swag up in the later half of the season as he became a target of more passes. Darian Davis-Ray made a huge impact on the offfensive side of the ball at running back.
OFFENSIVE LINEMEN
Dalton Brill – Central Dauphin – Class of 2014
Jordan Mosley – Bishop McDevitt – Class of 2014
You might have to include the majority of Bishop McDevitt’s offensive line on this one. They were the best unit around in 2013.
DEFENSIVE LINEMEN
Codie Zimmerman – Central Dauphin- Class of 2014
Mike Perloski – Bishop McDevitt – Class of 2014
Steve Marrazzo – Bishop McDevitt – Class of 2014
Trey Klock – Lower Dauphin – Class of 2014
Klock helped spearhead a Lower Dauphin defense that shut down most of it’s competition all year. Marrazzo and Perloski are two severely underrated players in Eastern Pennsylvania.
LINEBACKERS
Ben Mosey – Central Dauphin – Class of 2014
Jared Folks – Susquehanna Township – Class of 2014
Joe Adams – Harrisburg – Class of 2014
Logan Sangree-Hill – Susquehanna Township – Class of 2014
Nate Monroe – Bishop McDevitt – Class of 2014
DEFENSIVE BACKS
Carlos Balkcom – Harrisburg – Class of 2014
JoJo Headen – Bishop McDevitt – Class of 2016
Lawrence Holley Jr. – Susquehanna Township – Class of 2014
James Warren – Steel-High – Class of 2014
Takhi Turner – Susquehanna Township – Class of 2014
James Warren turned out to be the best in the conference. He was probably the best two-way player in the Mid-Penn during the 2013 season. Takhi Turner also played a good amount of running back for Susquehanna Township this year and looked pretty good as he showed his downhill running skills.
