RUNNING BACKS

Elijah Hood and Jeff Jones

While it may be hard to totally evaluate a running back at events like these, it does give them a chance to show skills that may not be seen on their highlight videos.   Hood, a Notre Dame commit, has the perfect blend of size (6’0”, 220 lbs.) and speed (clocked at 4.56 at the Nike Sparq Combine in Charlotte).  His performance on the field was incredible in 2012 as he rushed for 2,868 yards and 45 touchdowns.  Jones is a University of Minnesota commit and ran for over 1,000 yards and 9 touchdowns during the 2012 season.  The top-end speed of both players is very impressive.

WIDE RECEIVERS AND TIGHT END

Malachi Dupre, Erik Brown, Braxton Berrios ,Thaddeus Snodgrass, and Chase Blakley (TE)

When it comes to wide receivers, sometimes that stats don’t tell the whole story.  That’s definitely the case if a receiver plays in a run-oriented offense for his high school.  That’s when you usually see situation where a wide receiver may have not come into a camp with big-time numbers, but end up putting on a big-time performance.  That’s the case for Thaddeus Snodgrass (30 catches, 452 yards in 2012) and Erik Brown.  Snodgrass has committed to Kentucky.  The best all-around player is Braxton Berrios.  As a triple-threat, Berrios ran and threw the football for over 1,500 yards and 23 touchdowns.  Berrios also had 740 receiving yards to go along with his 10 touchdown grabs.  Berrios is quick and very shifty.  Malachi Dupre is the best wide receiver prospect and athlete out of the group.  Dupre routinely runs by our out-jumps receivers for the football.  Blakley has committed to the University of Washington.

OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE LINEMEN

OL – Damien Mama, Kyle Trout, Kammy Delp

DL – Solomon Thomas, Jalyn Holmes, Garrald McDonald

Damien Mama is what they call REAL.  At 6’4”, 350 pounds, he is athletic and very aggressive.  His highlight tape is filled with pancake after pancake. Defensive Ends Jayln Holmes (Ohio State commit) and Solomon Thomas are two of the best defensive ends in the entire nation.  Solomon Thomas racked up 80 tackles and 8 sacks during the 2012 season despite seeing constant double teams.  Kyle Trout is an Ohio State commit and Kammy Delp finished the 2012 season with 12 sacks. Garrald McDowell was a beast in the middle during the 2012 season as he finished with 87 total tackles, 10 ½ sacks, and a fumble recovery.  He has a very explosive first step and is a hard hitter.

LINEBACKERS

Dwight Williams, Chris Register, Matthew Adams

This is a very impressive trio of linebackers.  Dwight Williams (160 tackles in 2012) is a fearsome tackler who can run down a play from anywhere on the field.  Chris Register (Clemson commit, 110 tackles, 7 sacks) and Matthew Adams (Houston commit) are both hard hitters and good in pass coverage.  It’ll be interesting to see if Adams stays at linebacker at the next level due to his size.  One thing is for sure, when these guys hit you, they HIT you.

DEFENSIVE BACKS

CB – Adoree’ Jackson, Adarius Pickett, Kendarius Webster, Minkah Fitzpatrick

S – Jamal Adams, Trey Marshall

ATH – Austin Roberts

The “future” of this bunch is Minkah Fitzpatrick, going into his junior year in the fall of 2013.  He already has offers from Rutgers, Syracuse, Ohio State, and others.  He recently had a great showing according to all reports at Rutgers 7v7 Passing Camp last weekend.  Adoree’ Jackson is considered to be one of the best cornerbacks in the nation with an offer list that includes Alabama, LSU, Oregon, and UCLA to name a few. Kendarius Webster is one of the fastest players on the roster and has over 20 offers. Trey Marshall is listed as a Safety, but he and Austin Roberts are two of the best athletes on the roster.

Below is a highlight video of some of the players on the Field Generals Nike Opening roster.
