Preps.com will begin to take a look at players who had good seasons in 2013, but didn’t get the notoriety that some other plays may have gotten. They showed out on the field, but maybe they didn’t get the “shine” and love they deserved. That makes them one of PREPS “Underrated In The Game” players.
Name: Nick Rinella
High School : LaSalle College (Philadelphia, PA)
Vitals: 5’9”, 165 pounds
Graduation Year: 2016
2013 Stats (Courtesy of Tedsilary.com) – 89 carries for 419 yards and 6 touchdowns. 26 catches for 325 yards and 3 receiving touchdowns.
Nick Rinella was part of a LaSalle College (Philadelphia) backfield that included the very talented Jordan Meachum (’15). In an offense where the ball was spread around, Rinella was able to gain over 700 yards of total offense and score a total of 9 touchdowns. Even with limited carries, Rinella flashed some promise in his sophomore year and will most likely be “the man” once Meachum graduates. Rinella showed his versatility throughout the season as he did damage both running and catching the ball.
Rinella said that he would playing for the Philly’s Finest 7v7 team during this offseason. While he is doing that, Rinellas also plans on working on improving his strength and becoming more explosive. Rinella also expects to play more on the defensive side during the upcoming 2014 season. I found his choices of influence on the football field very interesting (in an impressive way). He credited Walter Payton, Devon Hester, and LeSean “Shady” McCoy as influences to his game on the football field.
Preps.com will keep you updated on Nick Rinella during the upcoming months. Check out his 2013 season highlights and watch him go to work.
