Both of those are laid to rest today!
Who’s the first class of 2014 prospect to land on the FinestPreps.com blog?
Check out Mike Pendleton’s report below on a California high school football phenom!
The best talent in high school football usually resides in consistent areas. One of those areas is located in California, more specifically, Crenshaw High School (Los Angeles, California). The Crenshaw Cougars have run the table–winning city championships and sending multiple players to Division I-A universities.
Most notably, the latest Crenshaw star to hit college, is running back/athlete De’Anthony Thomas, a top-five player in the class of 2011 who will be an incoming freshman for the Oregon Ducks. In his press conference, Thomas talked about the underclassmen at Crenshaw holding it down and bringing another title home for the Cougars.
When he mentioned the underclassmen, Zaire Andre, a freshman, took notice. Andre, who cites Thomas as a “big brother influence”, is a 6’1″ wide receiver/quarterback for the Cougars.
Andre, who played J.V. for Crenshaw, had a successful season as a freshman, posting a 9-1 record and was considered one of the most vocal and important leaders of the J.V. Cougars. Andre was a big leader because, “I believe I made an impact as a receiver threat and lead my teammates on and off the field.”
Although Andre has not heard from any colleges yet, he knows they will come. “With the effort, hard work, and dedication I bring, I am sure that as I continue to grow, I will capture the attention of colleges that I can attribute to in a positive manner.”
As far as capturing attention from colleges, Andre understands the recruiting process saying, “The most important part of my recruiting process is to be able to get a scholarship to get a free education and compete with the best athletes in the world.”
As the education is mentioned, it should be noted that Andre currently holds a 3.5 GPA and finds himself enrolled in all honor classes. While he puts in the work, Andre has something to say for those that will encounter him throughout his high school career saying: “I would like people to know that I am hard-working and I am a leader. I will stop at nothing to become the best player I can be and continue to keep the strong tradition that the Crenshaw Cougars hold.”
As a football player, Andre lists his best qualities as, “I am very athletic, I run smooth routes and have a good IQ for the game.” As he continues to progress, Andre keeps his mind focused saying “My goals as I continue to move on with my high school career is to be the best receiver in my class and have the chance to attend college I choose.”
Succeeding with work on the football field and more importantly in the classroom, Zaire Andre is a student-athlete to keep your eyes on, especially in the class of 2014. With future Oregon Duck, De’Anthony Thomas listed as his influence, it goes without saying that Andre will put in the time, effort, and dedication that Thomas did, to make himself a great player and continue Crenshaw High School’s great football tradition.
