There is no true definition to “the perfect football player” but for David Smith, being the best player he can be is the perfect way to be. Smith, from Bremen High School (Midlothian, Illinois) is making noise in the class of 2012 at the running back position.
At 6 feet and 196 pounds, Smith has great build for a running back. Although his team went 3-6 this past season, Smith kept a positive attitude saying “It was all a learning experience for myself and the entire team. Both teams come out and play to win, and to go through a losing season, we realize how hard we must play, and I realize that I have more work to do.”
A balanced back, Smith says his best features as running back are his size and speed. With the build of a Division-I-A running back and the speed to make his defenders miss, Smith has caught attention from schools across the country.
Already obtaining offers from schools: Arizona, Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana, Oregon State, West Virginia, Toledo, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Minnesota and Purdue, Smith has found his mailbox to be very full.
Despite the schools already offering Smith has seen increased interest in schools: Nebraska, Florida, Ole Miss, Missouri, Stanford, Oregon, and plenty others. “The amount of offers and attention isn’t what I seek, I seek to find the best program that I fit into football and academically.”
When asked about how recruiting can stay in control while schools from across the country are contacting him, Smith says “The important part of the recruiting process is seeing what every school has to offer and how you’d fit into various programs. That’s really what I’m looking for in my college decision, what school I will fit into best, and how much can I contribute right away.”
While his decision is still to come, Smith wants everyone to know that “I am a very disciplined player and someone who will do whatever it takes to win.” Smith says he lives by the saying “Why take score if winning isn’t everything?”
Humble, respectful, and focused. David Smith, running back of 2012 has already made noise in the running back class but will look to continue that mark as his senior season progresses. If schools haven’t offered or contacted David Smith, it goes without saying that they will soon enough, and when they do, he’ll look to see exactly how he can contribute. There may not be a perfect football player, but David Smith strives to be the best.
As a junior, Smith rushed for 1,028 yards and 13 touchdowns on 110 carries last season for Bremen.
