The state of Ohio has one of the best football traditions in America.

Year in, year out, there’s no question Ohio can be depended upon to crank out some of the top football talent in all the land.

Today our very own Mike Curtis takes a look at the next great power running back to come out of Ohio.

Who’s the hot prospect who will be suiting up for the Ohio State Buckeyes in the fall of 2012?

Check Mike Curtis’s report below!

St. Francis DeSales (Columbus, Ohio) running back Warren Ball, Jr. is your prototypical Big Ten running back.

The Ohio State class of 2012 commitment runs the rock with authority, shrugging off would be tacklers throughout his highlight film.

A powerful, punishing runner, Ball will wear down opposing defenses with his aggressive running style.

Not just a pwer back, Ball combines his force with quickness to gash defenses for big gains.

Displaying an impressive initial burst , the Rivals.com Top 250 member has very quick feet, often making the first man miss.

A decisive runner as well, Ball doesn’t do much dancing.

He also finishes every run and is regularly seen dragging defenders for extra yardage in his highlight tape below.

As expected with his size ( Ball checks in at 6’2 200 lbs), he excels in short yardage situations and in the redzone, grinding out the tough yards.

Ball’s high school offense doesn’t feature much passing but he does show good hands on his lone grab of the his film.

Injuries are a concern for Ball, as he has battled a lingering ankle injury during his high school career.

The talented back doesn’t display great speed however, occasionally getting caught from behind. He actually looks faster on his sophomore tape. Time will tell if that is due to his ankle injury.

Ball also likes to bounce runs outside, using his superior athleticism to find yardage.

This won’t work as well on the next level, with the increase in speed he will see on a weekly basis.

One of the top tier prospects in the talent rich state of Ohio, Ball amassed over 2,500 rushing yards yards the past two seasons.

The four-star running back has the necessary talents to make a huge impact for the Scarlet and Gray.
