FinestPreps has been delivering you updates on some of the top football prospects in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area!
Today we are the bearer of some excellent news as we learned that Reggie Mitchell of Shady Side Academy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) landed his first Division I-A (FBS) scholarship offer.
We recently dubbed Mitchell as one of the top “under-the-radar” prospects in the Pittsburgh area and it appears that a certain Big Ten school agreed with us.
Who’s the powerhouse program that extended a scholarship offer to Mitchell earlier today?
The Wisconsin Badgers’ coaching staff decided to extend a scholarship offer to Mitchell today, becoming the first Division I-A (FBS) program to join the mix for his services.
His lead recruiter for the Badgers is Joe Rudolph–the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator for Wisconsin.
Rudolph recruits the Western Pennsylvania territory for the Badgers’ coaching staff.
The Badgers are one of the top football programs in the Big Ten conference and are coming off a banner season in which they landed a Rose Bowl berth against TCU.
Mitchell has been racking up the scholarship offers as of late.
Football Championship Subdivision powerhouse Villanova recently extended him a scholarship offer after he impressed at their camp.
The Wildcats won the FCS (Division I-AA) National Championship in 2009 and are one of the nation’s premiere football programs in the FCS.
Duquesne also decided to extend an offer as well after watching him at the same camp.
His scholarship offer list now includes three teams: Wisconsin, Villanova, and Duquesne.
If you’ve seen Mitchell’s highlight tape below–it shouldn’t surprise you that attention for the fleet-footed signal-caller has started to heat up.
He’s blessed with tremendous footwork and when you have footwork like Mitchell’s–the ceiling for a prospect’s potential at the defensive back position is extremely high.
Excellent footwork is such a critical part of the defensive back position at the collegiate level.
Mitchell’s greatest asset as a football player is his outstanding footwork.
He’s got excellent ball skills as a defensive back as well.
As a junior, he snatched up three interceptions from the defensive back position for Shady Side Academy.
As a quarterback, the fleet footed signal-caller gashed opposing defenses to the tune of over 600 rushing yards.
He also threw for over 550 passing yards for the Shady Side Indians.
Look for the recruitment process for Mitchell to only heat up even more as time passes!
